ANALYSIS OF THE CURRENT STATE OF THE PRODUCTION OF NICHE CEREAL CROPS
Abstract
The article reveals the relevance of the production of niche agricultural crops in today's conditions. It is emphasized that in Ukraine it has increased in the conditions of martial law, as the prices for traditional business crops have decreased significantly. It is emphasized that the cultivation of niche crops in general and niche cereals, in particular, can contribute to positive both economic and environmental effects. The analysis of the production of niche grain crops in today's conditions is performed on the example of such representatives of this group as rye and sorghum. The main advantages that form the economic potential of these crops are revealed and the main reasons that inhibit the increase in crops and their production volumes are revealed. In the context of sorghum and rye, it is stated that their main advantages are versatility, the possibility of application in many areas, as well as unpretentiousness. The level and dynamics of rye and sorghum production in Ukraine by main commodity producers were analyzed. In particular, an analysis of areas, production volumes, and yields of the specified crops was performed. It has been established that domestic farmers are more actively engaged in the production of niche grain crops, in particular rye and sorghum, and the yield of these crops has increased significantly during the studied period. The geography of growing rye and sorghum in Ukraine is covered. The dynamics of indicators of the economic efficiency of cultivation and sale of niche grain crops (on the example of rye) by agricultural enterprises of Ukraine were studied ‒ the full cost of 1 cent, the price of sale of 1 cent, the level of profitability. It has been established that the economic feasibility of the production of these crops is also due to potentially high profitability. We came to the conclusion that along with a number of advantages that are inherent in niche crops, their cultivation and implementation differs from the production and implementation of traditional crops with which the majority of domestic farmers are familiar. Therefore, this question needs to be investigated further, taking into account the changing conditions of today.
