DOMESTIC TOURISM IN IVANO-FRANKIVSK REGION: PREREGUISITES AND CURRENT STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to explore the prerequisites, current state and key trends of domestic tourism development in the Ivano-Frankivsk region under conditions of war and emerging socio-economic challenges. The study results indicate that in the current conditions the tourism sector plays an essential role: it contributes to the physical and psychological rehabilitation of the population, supports regional economies, maintains employment and fosters social stability. Ivano-Frankivsk region, as one of Ukraine’s leading tourist destinations and a relatively safe territory, has become a key center for domestic tourism. The region’s natural resources, as well as its cultural, ethnographic and artistic diversity, create unique opportunities for attracting domestic tourists. The region has become a hub for internally displaced persons and relocated businesses, which has significantly influenced tourism demand and consumer needs. In today’s context, the very structure and specifics of domestic tourism have changed. There is an increasing demand for short-term, safe, wellness-oriented, and rehabilitative travel experiences. Ivano-Frankivsk region demonstrates adaptability to new realities. New trends are clearly emerging, with therapeutic and wellness, ecological, rural, religious, gastronomic, and ethnic tourism becoming priorities. The role of tourism as a means of emotional and psychological recovery is increasing: psychological tourism programs are being actively developed, including mountain retreats, art therapy, breathing practices and support by mental health professionals. There is growing focus on training tourism staff to work with people with special needs and ensuring accessibility of tourist facilities. The practical value of the article arose in the systematization of the prerequisites for the development of domestic tourism in the Ivano-Frankivsk region and the generalization of current trends and the identification of key problems affecting the industry in modern conditions. The research methodology includes analysis and synthesis, comparison, monitoring of regional development documents.
